The preacher at church this morning said that people often ask him why he believes in God. He said that he responds by telling them it's his heritage. That his faith was passed down to him from his parents and their parents to them. That he was taught as a child grew up believing.
This may be an adequate response and may not strike anyone else as slightly lacking. I however took a lot of issues with this statement.
I want my faith to be based on something solid and concrete. I want evidence and to have confidence based on solid facts. Is that a lack of faith? Anyone can have a feeling, but is that all that faith is? Shouldn't there be be more to it then it passed down and being a tradition that everyone follows?
